Master Thesis - Indicative Metrics of a Successful Market Launch
What is Gilion?
At Gilion, we’re building the world’s largest Growth Platform for founders. Our technology is at the heart of everything we do, enabling entrepreneurs to achieve their goals faster through innovative funding and analytics solutions. Our platform seamlessly connects raw business data to cutting-edge growth models, offering founders unparalleled insights and access to growth loans that are unmatched in the market.
We're a group of engineers hailing from leading innovators like Google, Spotify, King, Anyfin, and Einride. We've joined forces with some of the brightest minds in banking to assist entrepreneurs in growing their businesses smarter and faster. Traditionally, founders have been left to navigate the fundraising journey alone.
The Gilion platform offers immediate access to a powerful analytics tech stack, featuring intuitive visualizations and advanced forecasting without needing SQL or CSS. Our data-driven approach helps founders understand their performance compared to peers, as the industry shifts towards more objective, data-backed investment decisions. We’re fully committed to driving a new era for how entrepreneurs grow their ventures on a global scale.
Master Thesis
The Gilion Platform is using cutting-edge technology to support key decisions - one of which is determining whether to extend loans to companies. A common assumption among potential loan customers is that launching in a new market will lead to a substantial increase in sales. By analyzing past market launches and defining key performance metrics, this thesis aims to evaluate whether this assumption holds true.
The framework created from this thesis will provide valuable input for our structuring team and data analysts, while guiding our forecasting team in making more accurate, data-driven sales forecasts. This approach aligns with Gilion’s mission to help founders grow their businesses faster and smarter through objective, data-backed decisions
Research Questions
The master's thesis student will focus on addressing of the following (or a similar) question:
What Are the Key Metrics That Distinguish Successful Market Entries from Less Successful Ones?
This question explores which transactional data points (e.g., daily revenue, customer acquisition, retention) are most indicative of a successful market launch. The goal is to identify the key metrics that signal success, or to establish reasonable timeframes for growth.
Methodology Overview
The research will involve analyzing transactional data from sources such as Fortnox or the Apple App Store. The methodology includes comparing the historical performance of market launches for a given company, with the potential to compare across other companies. Quantitative methods, such as time series analysis or linear regression, will be employed to uncover insights.
Expected Outcomes
By the end of the thesis, the student is expected to deliver:
A framework for evaluating the success of a company launching in new markets
That can be used to determine whether a company’s assumptions about growth in new markets are realistic

Experience working with data sets
Interest in market analysis and business expansion
